Welcome to UB! Whether UB is close to home or far away, whether your student will be living on campus or off campus, this is an exciting time for your family. At UB, we see ourselves as partners with you and your students, providing the best support system to help students succeed at UB. Parent & Family Orientation is where our partnership begins – and it continues throughout your student’s UB experience.
During each first year and transfer student Orientation, there is a corresponding Parent & Family Orientation. For students, Orientation is a time for discovery. For parents, this is a time to build the foundations upon which students can succeed in college.
Parent & Family Orientation will personalize UB. As you meet the caring professionals who work with students, the University becomes more than bricks and mortar, it becomes a network. Parent & Family Orientation will help you understand the academic and social environment at UB and familiarize you with the many support services and programs available to your student. Parent & Family Orientation will help you appreciate the people and programs that make UB great.
Students’ orientation dates are sent via email. Parent & Family Orientation is a one-day program that runs concurrently with the student orientation program. Check-in for Parent & Family Orientation is at 9:00 a.m. in the Student Union Lobby and the program ends by 4:00 p.m.
The fee for Parent & Family Orientation — a self-supporting, fee-generated program — is $30 per family.
Register for Parent & Family Orientation online. Please note you will need your student’s UB Person Number and payment must be made by MasterCard, VISA, or Discover. You may also register by calling New Student Programs at 1-877-434-0665 (toll-free) or (716)645-6125. Registration must be received at least three business days prior to the orientation date
If you plan to attend Parent & Family Orientation and will need overnight accommodations, check here for a list of nearby hotels.
Aside from attending Parent & Family Orientation, there are several ways you can help your student make a smooth transition to UB. The New Student Checklist is a great place start. It lists all the things students need to do before coming to campus.
