New Student Checklist

Welcome to the UB family. After paying your tuition deposit and housing deposit (if you want to live on campus), follow these steps to get started at UB. Print this checklist to use as a guide to help you through the process.

If you haven’t deposited, please pay your tuition and/or housing deposit before continuing. If you plan to live on campus, you must also enter your Housing Preferences. If you plan to live off campus, learn more about how to prepare.

Complete between now and your orientation program.
Complete the orientation data form. Don’t delay! The next steps depend on your orientation data form!

This is how you’ll select your orientation date, inform your class registration for your first semester, and register your parent and family members for their orientation program.
Submit your immunization records to Student Health Services.

UB students will not be able to register for classes until they have fulfilled these requirements.
Prepare for course registration (procedures will vary by advising unit.)
Visit your HUB Student Center (through MyUB), the online resource for financial aid, billing and registration needs, to review any financial aid information, complete to do list items, and authorize account payers.
Get connected to UB’s IT resources.
Send a photo for your UB Card at least one week prior to your orientation date.
Review meal plans.
Accept or decline Student Medical Insurance coverage. Acceptance is automatic (for full-time domestic students and all international students) unless waived online.
Review your course schedule.
Register for your parking permit to park on campus.
Watch for Financial Aid award notice in your buffalo.edu email account and accept awards in HUB Student Center.
Prepare for and attend your Spring or Summer Orientation Program.
Make arrangements to have high school, college, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate and/or CLEP transcripts sent. (All students must submit high school transcripts.)
Learn more about how and when to pay your tuition bill through your HUB Student Center.
Complete AlcoholEDU and Haven.
After your orientation program, prepare for Year One.
Affirm awareness of UB’s rules and regulations by accessing the Need to Know Section of MYUB.
Update your emergency contact information in your HUB Student Center.
Sign up for UB Emergency Text Messaging.
Check your buffalo.edu email account regularly.
Learn about accessibility resources.
Read about your privacy rights and decide whether to authorize release of your Student Directory info (PDF).
Order your textbooks! The bookstore will deliver your books to the mailroom of your residence halls.
Attend first day of class on January 29, 2018.
